The Digital Competitiveness Stakeholders' Consultation is an independent initiative of the Institute of International & European Affairs (IIEA). The IIEA is a non-governmental, non-commercial organisation that represents no corporate view point, and has a number of different research groups on issues ranging from climate change to taxation policy. The IIEA is funded by private sector companies, trades unions, academia, government departments and agencies, the European Commission, individual members, and semi-state bodies.
ABOUT THE IIEA DIGITAL FUTURE GROUP Chairperson (IIEA Digital Future Group) Paul Rellis is Managing Director of Microsoft Ireland, and is responsible for Microsoft Corporation’s business in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Prior to being appointed MD, Paul was the Managing Director for Microsoft’s European, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Operations Centre, based in Sandyford, Co. Dublin. Previously, he held the position of Finance Director for Microsoft Operations in EMEA and Asia-Pacific. He joined Microsoft in January 2000 from The Coca-Cola Company, where he held a variety of senior positions in Finance, Marketing and Operations in both the Coca-Cola HQ in Atlanta and in Germany. Paul qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse Coopers and Waterford Regional Technical College. Vice-Chairperson (IIEA Digital Future Group) Professor O’Connor is Chair of the Digital Hub Development Agency and President Emeritus of the National College of Ireland. She chairs the Dublin Inner City Partnership and is a non-executive director of the National Centre for Partnership and Performance and the Dublin Chamber of Commerce. Professor O’Connor was previously Head of the Department of Languages and Applied Social Studies at the University of Limerick. She is an Eisenhower Fellow and received the Woman of the Year Award 2005 for her contribution to education and the public sector. Among the Government agencies that she has chaired are the National Council for Educational Awards (NCEA), the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC), the National Accreditation Committee for People with Disabilities, the Expert Group on Mental Health Policy and the National Guidance Forum. She has also served as a member of a number of Government bodies including the Labour Relations Commission (LRC), the National Economic and Social Council (NESC), and the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI).
