At the beginning of 2008, the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) established a Young Professionals’ Network (YPN). The YPN was set up to provide young, dynamic, future leaders from different backgrounds including the business and legal communities, the media, the public sector, NGOs and academia, among others, with access to leading thinkers, policy makers and business people from both Ireland and abroad. Once a month, issues of interest to Ireland in the European and international context are addressed in a relaxed, informal, after-work environment. The events are a great opportunity for members to meet and interact with their peers over a glass of wine.

Previous speakers include: Minister Eamon Ryan T.D; Peter Sutherland, Chairman of BP and former European Commissioner; Pat Cox, former President of the European Parliament; Ulick McEvaddy, businessman and Lisbon Treaty campaigner; Mary Robinson, former President and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights; Mark Little, RTE Prime Time presenter; Gary McGann, Smurfit Kappa CEO; and Roger Cohen, International Herald Tribune correspondent.

So far, the Network has over 400 members on its mailing list, reflecting a broad range of professions and interests. The contact details of new members joining the Network will be added to the database and they will subsequently receive updates from the IIEA and notification of all upcoming events for which they can register with the IIEA ‘s reception. Events are also publicised on the IIEA’s website. Membership of the Young Professionals’ Network is free of charge and events take place once a month after work at the IIEA’s city centre location on North Great George’s Street. The Network is for those aged 18-35. For more information, please email jill.farrelly@iiea.com
